 Charles Fitts composer of symphonic, chamber and choral music B.F.A. After appearances as piano soloist with the Cincinnati Symphony and several solo recitals he was called to military duty as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. Upon returning to the United States he embarked on a career in the growing computer technology field. In 1998 Mr. Fitts returned to music composition as a full time career. He combines his widely varied experiences in music, computer technology, and mathematics in the composition of major works for chamber ensembles, voice, synthesizer and symphony orchestra. He relies heavily on the computer as a composition productivity aid and upon his mathematical background as a tool for adding structural, philosophical and contrapuntal content to his works. His first three string quartets were written for, and premiered at, the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas. His cantata for soprano and orchestra, Hearts Celestial, was premiered in June, 2003 by the Orchestra of the Swan at Stratford-on-Avon in England. He has appeared on the "Meet the Composer" series in the United States and he spoke on the "Influence of Scientific Discovery on Musical Structures and Styles" at the Aspen Composer's Conference in 2002. His work for chorus and woodwind quintet, Sanctus Sestina, was premiered in Mexico City by the Choir of the National Arts Center and later performed by that group at the International Choir Olympics in Korea where the performance won a silver medal. His symphonic poem, Cobá, was awarded first prize in the 2003 composition competition sponsored by the Foundation Orchestra of Reno, Nevada which premiered and recorded the work. His symphonic poem, Chisos Epiphany, was recorded by the Carlos Chávez Symphony Orchestra of Mexico City as part of a collection of new music by Mexican and American composers. He and his wife, journalist Susan Love Fitts, divide their time between their home on Lake Conroe near Houston and their adobe house and ranch on the Rio Grande just across from Ojinaga, Mexico. |
